European settlement first came to Pambula in the late 1830's when the area was used for grazing by the Imlay Brothers. However, the Aboriginal tribe, the Yuin, were well established in the area for thousands of years. They left evidence of their activities in the many oyster middens situated along the Pambula River. Today, Pambula is a coastal village clinging strongly to its history, with peaceful lakes and idyllic river mouth, it is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of city life.
