Pambula

Overview Accommodation Dining Out Entertainment Industrial Services Shopping Tourism

Previously known as "Panboola" or "Punbula" by the local Indigenous tribe, meaning Twin Waters, the spelling has now transpired to "Pambula".

European settlement first came to Pambula in the late 1830's when the area was used for grazing by the Imlay Brothers. However, the Aboriginal tribe, the Yuin, were well established in the area for thousands of years. They left evidence of their activities in the many oyster middens situated along the Pambula River.

Today, Pambula is a coastal village clinging strongly to its history, with peaceful lakes and idyllic river mouth, it is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of city life.

An absolutely ideal location for family holidays, with estuaries, beaches, lush green pastures and lake in close proximity. Strolling the meandering tracks through the beautiful wetlands is just one way to enjoy Pambula's irresistable charm.

Pambula Beach has a modern (Big 4) caravan park with absolute water frontage. The beach is patrolled in summer, and is a favourite swimming location for a large number of tourists each year.

Nearby you can take a cruise on the beautiful Pambula Lake and River which are bordered by the Ben Boyd National Park. Launch your boat from the Pambula boat ramp and journey to the ocean for a day of excellent fishing.

Pambula itself has a range of shops including a small supermarket, galleries and craft outlets. Gourmet restaurants and other eateries offer enticing snacks and meals line both sides of the street with plenty of choices for the family.

Many of the town's buildings have historical significance and are protected by an energetic and devoted community. You'll find plenty of treasures here.

Just north of Pambula sits the magnificent Pambula Merimbula gof course. Renowned for its picturesque fairways where kangaroos lounge in the sun and visitors can enjoy the club facilities including a completely refurbished club complete with extensive dining facilities and great views of the course.

From the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club, a short but delightful track takes the walker through avenues of native trees and strategically placed lookouts over the Pacific Ocean. The walk finishes at Jiguma Beach where the Pambula River runs out to sea.
